Cultural Conservation, Museum References Added to Foundation Library

What do you do when a water pipe breaks and water sprays valuable library books? What if your museum discovers an Indian skull with burial remains in a trunk received as a gift 50 years ago? What is the proper way to handle old negatives so they don’t break down and catch on fire? How do you clean an old and fragile quilt?

Specialists who have the answers are scarce in rural Wyoming. And so are reference materials that can help museum and library professionals find answers.

HSGLF was one of six Wyoming institutions to be awarded the “Connecting to Collections Bookshelf” by the Institute of Museum & Library Services  ( www.imls.gov/collections/bookshelf.)   The Foundation was awarded the reference set partly based on their plan to provide workshops and conservation activities to regional museums and libraries.

The Foundation has also added the following references to the library:

  • Manual of Museum Planning, Gail Dexter Lord and Barry Lord. Second Edition.
  • Exploring Museum theatre. Tessa Bridal.
  • Exhibit Labels: An Interpretive Approach. Beverly Serrell.
  • Handbook for Small Science Centers. Cynthia C. Yao, ed.
